Bill Palmer, our friend and the owner of iProng.com has asked me to write some editorials for their website and iProng Magazine. You can read the full piece here and I’ve posted it below. Most importantly, make sure you download iProng Magazine featuring the band, Silverchair. Hit the jump for my article.Macworld Conference & Expo, now in its twenty-third year, is the must-attend event for for Apple users. I’ve been attending since 2004 and haven’t missed a year. I’m constantly surprised by the number of users who think that Macworld is only about the Steve Jobs keynote or they know what it is but think it’s just too expensive to attend. Maybe I can shed some light on the week-long geek festival and encourage you to consider attending this year. Macworld is a five day event that runs from the 14th-18th this coming January at The Moscone Center which is a conference center taking up three blocks in south central San Francisco.Plane tickets to San Francisco are cheap if you book early. As an example, a round-trip flight from Jacksonville, Florida to San Francisco is $275 for that week. Flights out of the major U.S. airports like Dallas, Twin Cities and Atlanta are even cheaper. Hotels in the area run between $99 and $199 a night and the Macworld Expo website has a hotel booking section on their website that walks you through the booking process of local hotels at a discounted rate so you can get even better savings. What about the conference prices? Expect to pay between $199 and $1899 for your conference pass, but the $199 pass gets you into the keynote to see Steve Jobs in person. Exhibit hall passes are free if you do some searching around the Internet. Without including food, that’s a tally of just over $1000 dollars which is six nights in San Francisco and a user conference pass. Most parties are free and you can eat on the cheap. Why should you go? Macworld is a conference where more than forty thousand Mac users gather once a year to check out the latest Macintosh products on the exhibit hall floor, learn about the latest technology and software in some awesome conference programs and party with your friends and some really cool companies every night. If you’re on an Apple forum or a member of a user group, I’m betting a few of those people will be at Macworld Expo. People that you know online will be there and the owners and editors of your favorite technology publications will be there too! It’s a lovefest and by being an Apple user, you’re invited. Plus, when you’re bored of Macworld (as if that would ever happen), you can see the city! San Francisco has tons of things to do from shopping to tours and it’s a great place to take some fantastic photos and sample amazing food at a variety of restaurants.iProng Magazine will be there and so will thousands more geeks, but Macworld Expo isn’t all about pocket protectors. It’s about learning a ton of new and exciting things about technology and hanging with geeks every night at the dozens of parties.”
