If you’re not attending Macworld this year, you are most certainly missing out. I first started attending Macworld back in 2003 and even went to Macworld Boston in 2004 which is a total fail. Every Macworld in San Francisco has consistently gotten better with more exhibitors, amazing sessions and a large growth in attendees. The problem was that so many people attended Macworld in 2008, it was difficult to get into the keynote, find a place to grab lunch and I started to get the feeling that Moscone was too small for the crowds of Macworld.
I’m extremely happy about Macworld 2009 for a few reasons. The first is that there won’t be the media attention of yesteryear. No crazy news vans, hopefully more user conference badge holders like me will be able to see the keynote instead of placed in an overflow room and I don’t have to get in line for the keynote at 3AM like I did in previous years.
The second thing is that I actually like Phil Schiller. He’s funny, friendly and isn’t perfect like Steve Jobs. That’s right. Phil doesn’t nail every sentence like it was written from the holy book. Phil is your friendly neighborhood computer geek and I like that.
The last thing is that I’m hoping I’ll be able to spend quality time with my friends who run companies and are exhibiting at Macworld. Less lines, less people and more face time with companies that I want full info about their products.
Of course, if this is all true and there are less people, that means IDG World Expo didn’t grow numbers which would be a bad thing. As much as I hate the crowds, I desperately want Macworld expo to survive. I encourage every Machead to make the pilgrimage this year. It’s going to be a lot of fun and the last year we’ll see Apple’s booth and probably the last year for a lot of folks who have been going to the event for the past 20 years.
If you need help finding cheap hotels or cheap flights let me know. I’ll try my best to “hook you up”
