We picked up chairs for about 5 or $6 last year at a Target in South San Fran (I think it was actually more like Brisbane or San Mateo). Good if you have a car.. not so good if not. You may be able to pick these up before you come out at a local Target in NJ? They are plenty small when collapsed and would fit nicely into your bag. I would absolutely get them and then you can leave them for others to pick up as you head inside. Last year they were great to have as we got there about 345 and ended up at the back of the main keynote room. The year prior I got in line around 5 and ended up in the back of the overflow room.

Thanks for your advice. We already have our early bird discounted USERS Pass and I was planning on getting up early (heck, I'm from NJ so I'll just stay in NJ time since I'm not arriving until monday night, and it won't feel so early). I just wanted to know HOW early and where. So, I guess my plan will be to go to nearest cheap store for folding chairs (any advice??) and then go wait in line with all the other insane apple people. It's my first macworld and I surely want to get into the keynote to top off the experience. Looks like I'll see you all there! The Pre-Keynote meet-up sounds great. It is fairly certain we will get into keynote if we arrive by 4:00?

Hi 'Dripps' - to get into the Keynote, to need to line up by at least 3.30am - 4.30am, not at 7am - 8am as you may not get into the keynote!

Come to the DailyTechTalk Pre-Keynote meet-up, to get a good place in line!
Here's a link with details:

http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/270621

You will also need a USERS Pass to get in to the Keynote, buy it at Moscone for $320, as you have now missed the early bird discount price!

See you there!

I want to get into the Keynote. This is my first Macworld Expo and I'm very excited but both my husband and myself will be there and we don't want to purchase the expensive package which includes priority seating. So...my question is....what time do I need to get in line to get into the room??

Michaelangelo's Italian restaurant is at Columbus and Union, kitty corner to Washington Square. It's great food. But really, damn near any restaurant along that stretch of Columbus is a worthwhile venture.

And if you're like me, you'll eat your way through Chinatown on your way to North Beach.

I am a recent Mac convert (sounds like a religious experience, which it is!) and will be a first timer at the 08 Macworld Expo. I'd love to know more about the day trip to Apple HQ. If there's an excursion planned, please email me more info. And, thanks for the first timer's guide! Excellent info!

Who's organizing it and how much will it cost?

Excellent guide!

On note: The $24 weekly pass is the "Tourist Pass", or "Visitor Passport", as MUNI calls. It comes with some benefits, especially that it includes Cable Car rides, and that it is valid for any 7 consecutive days.
http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/passports.htm

I strongly recommend it to visitors because riding the Cable Car is fun and definitely a "DO" while you are in San Francisco. Also the 7 day rule will accommodate any schedule.

A cheaper option is the normal weekly pass for $15. It is good for one week, from Monday through Sunday. Each cable car ride will be $1 extra.
