hotel shuttle services are becoming increasingly popular because they get you from hotel to airport at a very cheap price.

This is why I read this site so attentively: I _am_ a Macworld first-timer!

That said, not to get into an argument, but of course, if you have three huge bags, then public transportation is not an option -- but then again, who carries that sort of load?

And who in their right mind would book a hotel at Golden Gate Park for Macworld? And if you did, you might as well get accustomed to MUNI early on, because you will spend a lot of time on the bus.

But if you were clever and are staying at the Adelaide Hostel or any other downtown hotel close to Union Square or the Moscone Center, a BART station will be in walking distance. It saves you about $10 each way, and I dare you that it will not take longer than the Shuttle going up Highway 101.

As to "if you don't know your way around SF", that is true now that all the Shuttles have Navigation systems. But back in the day, when I was coming home via OAK, I once had to give a Shuttle driver directions because Union Square was pretty much all he knew about San Francisco ;)

Anyhow, the options are plenty: BART, Shuttle, Cab, Rental Car. Each with specific pros and cons.

Thanks Alex. I do agree that BART is a cheaper way but there are some problems for first time visitors to Macworld. I would rather pay 14 dollars for SuperShuttle than a couple of bucks for BART given the convenience of SuperShuttle.

As a test, I mapped out how to get from downtown SF(powell ST station) to Golden Gate Park. There's 3 connection stops and it takes an hour! SuperShuttle takes you directly to your hotel and if you have baggage or just don't know your way around SF this is the most convenient way.

I've been flying for 7 hours and now I want to hop on a subway with three huge bags. I did just that when i went to Macworld Boston in 2004 and took the subway from BOS to where I was staying in Boston College. It was miserable and took forever.

Thanks for the thoughts but this blog is for Macworld first timers and not for us Macworld Alumni.

SuperShuttle is nice and well when you arrive or depart late at night, but during normal hours, BART is best.

With all due respect Adam, "figuring out MUNI is not worth the headache." is just not true.

Form OAK or SFO, just take the BART (http://www.bart.gov) downtown. Chances are, your Hotel is in walking distance. And if not, it is well worth your time to check http://www.511.org for MUNI and other local transportation.

Both BART and MUNI have iPhone schedules, google is your friend here.
