Having lived in a large city (Philly) for almost 20 years, I can add one little tip to Adam's tips. When your in a safe/big tourist area, be smart, but feel free to look around, take pictures and generally not be concerned if everyone knows that it's your first time in San Francisco. By the way, locals hate it when your refer to San Francisco as "Frisco". If your in a suspect area, always act like your mad at the world and don't give a s**t, and your can be pretty sure no one will pay you any attention. My 2cents ...................David.
